The society not only owns locomotives but we have a number of wagons under our care. Firstly there is the former GWR Fruit D which is now our tool van and from where we work out of at weekends.
Our second wagon is a Rectank which was modified at Laira to carry a Class 50 power unit including generator, it remains in the modified condition until the overhaul of D402 is completed when it will revert to it's unmodified state for future use on the SDR.
Devon & Cornwall Railways requested that the DDS conducted a repaint of 31601 into the latest variation of their house colours over a 2 week period prior to the 1960's Gala. The locomotive was officially named 'Devon Diesel Society' on 22nd May 2015 at Buckfastleigh prior to working a number of turns at the gala before returning to the mainline. It is expected that 31601 will carry these nameplates until withdrawal from frontline service by DCR.
These pages include a photographic and documented record of the overhaul of both wagons and the repaint of 31601.
